Explore 2cm.ai countertop takeoff softwareHow to measure countertops from a PDF
- Import the PDF and choose the page you want to measure.
- Select Calibrate and mark both ends of a reliable printed dimension. Enter its actual length and units, then apply the scale.
- Select Pencil and click two endpoints or drag a line. Read the distance on the drawing and in the dimensions list.
- Select Highlight to drag a rectangle or click around an irregular countertop. Click the first corner again or choose Finish area to calculate its square footage.
- Check another known dimension before using the results. Calibrate each page separately.
Zooming does not change the calibrated distances or areas. A new reference on the same page recalculates every dimension and highlight; differently scaled details should be measured and recorded separately. Distorted scans or not-to-scale drawings cannot be made reliable with a single calibration. See the PDF scale and plan review guide for the checks to make first.
Review the scope before pricing
For granite and marble takeoffs, measure each physical countertop piece once and confirm the material, thickness, and finish from the specifications. Measure backsplashes and waterfall panels from views that show their full surface dimensions.
Each highlight shows its square footage, with page and PDF totals. Use the countertop takeoff checklist to review finished edges, cutouts, seams, and services before pricing.
Record reviewed quantities in the countertop scope worksheet. The stone countertop takeoff walkthrough shows how plan quantities connect to an estimate.
Common questions
How accurate are measurements from a PDF plan?
Accuracy depends on the drawing, calibration, and where you place each point. Check a second known length after calibration. Calibrate each page separately and keep differently scaled details separate. Plan measurements support estimating; fabrication needs verified field measurements and production review.
Does the square-foot total tell me how many slabs to order?
No. It is the surface area you highlight, not a slab layout or purchasing quantity. Overlaps count twice, and openings are not deducted automatically. Slab sizes, usable material, piece orientation, seams, and vein matching need a separate layout review.
Are my plans uploaded or saved?
Your PDF is processed in your browser and is not uploaded to a server. Plans and measurements are not saved after leaving the page or importing another file. Record the quantities you need before closing the tool. Import unlocked PDFs up to 50 MB.
How does this compare with 2cm.ai countertop takeoff software?
This free tool provides manual PDF calibration, dimensions, and area highlighting without signup. It does not automatically detect countertops or create quotes. The 2cm.ai product connects reviewed countertop drawings and fabrication details with shop-specific pricing and quoting.
